Anti-Violence Project

Organized by farra trompeter

Half way there--still need your help!!
Between donations via ChipIn/PayPal,Network for Good,and offline checks, I've raised $2,901. But I still need to raise atleast $2,100 more dollars to do my part to help AVP. And wouldn't it beawesome if together we could raise even more.

My original pitchis below. Bottom line--NYC Anti-Violence Project is not just an org Icare about because I'm on its board. But I am someone who is a member ofthe community they are protecting and I feel safer knowing theyexist. Please help me make sure AVP does not face a pause in theirservices.

Thanks! Farra
Emergency Campaign -- Help!
I need your help. I am trying to raise $5,000 by May 31 to make surethe life-saving work of the New York City Anti-Violence Project cancontinue. The organization is facing a major cash flow crisis aspromised funds from the City Council are on hold.

You can "chip in" by clicking the button on the left--which will connect to my PayPal account OR you can give directly to the organization via Network for Good. Please let me know if you give so I can ensure you get a receipt.

It's easy tofeel excited about gay rights with last week's marriage victory inCalifornia, but this good news often comes at a price. Increasedvisibility for the queer community triggers an increase in attacks andincidents of hate and domestic violence, HIV-related violence, pick-upcrimes, rape, sexual assault, and other forms of violence.

Withviolence on the rise, our community cannot afford a break in thedelivery of AVP's services. Imagine being attacked and not having ahotline to call. Or getting the courage to leave an abusiverelationship without anyone to talk to for support.

As was just announced, in 2007:
* Murders in the community more than doubled;
* Reports of sexual assault rose 61%;
* Bias violence from nonstrangers increased 25%; and
* 5 LGBT people weremurdered in New York, including Francis De La Hoz, 28,who was killed inSeptember--just blocks away from my apartment.

Please help. Whatever you can give will go a long way. Thank you!
